Meet The Team

Alex Wilber

Alex has a background in science, with a first-class degree in Chemistry from Cambridge and a PhD (DPhil) in Physics from Oxford. He worked for nine years as a scientific consultant, specialising in developing medical and diagnostic devices, before retraining as a Nutritional Therapist. Alex now runs Cambridge Functional Medicine, a busy practice in the fens, and works with patients with a diverse range of conditions.

 

Nicola Shubrook

Nicola is a Registered Nutritional Therapist (mBANT & CNHC) and functional medicine practitioner (mIFM) specialising in all things mental health, including eating disorders, disordered eating, addiction, trauma and neurodiversity.  She runs an online clinic and team at Urban Wellness, is a regular contributor to BBC Good Food, and provides public speaking and corporate workshops educating others about the important role nutrition and functional medicine plays in mental health.

Dr Sally Bramley

Sally trained at King’s College London as a medical doctor, predominantly in A&E, general practice and psychiatry. She is triple board certified, in Integrative, Functional & Lifestyle medicine, and has additional certifications in health coaching and mind-body medicine. She runs a successful functional medical practice specialising in root cause, empowering healthcare, and is an enthusiastic writer and educator. Her thirst for growth and fostering community is at the heart of her service to BNFM.

Jamie Ellis

Jamie is a Doctor of Chiropractic and graduated with a Masters Degree in Chiropractic from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 2015. Throughout his years in private clinical practice, he developed a growing interest in a holistic approach which eventually led him to Functional Medicine. He then went on to pursue full certification with the IFM which he achieved in 2020. He now operates a virtual Functional Medicine practice specialising in energy, immune and hormone health with his partner and team of health coaches.

Dr Amir Sheikh

Amir graduated from St. George’s University of London in 2005. He is a fully certified FM doctor and a GP in the NHS where he has worked in various leadership roles. He is a founding member of the British Cupping Society, and has also worked in the Middle East as a Consultant in Family Medicine in a Wellbeing Centre. Amir wants to implement the breadth of his experience to promote an integrated model of care for patients with chronic illness using the principles of FM at its core. 

Katherine Paton

Katherine is a Registered Nutritional Therapist with an MSc in Personalized Nutrition and additional training in coaching. She specializes in digestive issues, chronic fatigue, and weight management, with a focus on realistic, sustainable change. After leaving a demanding corporate career due to her transformative health journey, she now brings her personal experience into helping busy professionals and parents make empowered nutritional choices. Katherine advocates for a balanced approach to health, ensuring that her clients not only improve their well-being but also enjoy the process.

Gemma McGuigan

Gemma runs a busy Functional Medicine & Nutrition clinic in The New Forest and regularly holds clinics in London along with online consultations showing specialism in gut health, female hormone health, autoimmunity & chronic fatigue. Gemma is also a wellness speaker & educator, co-founding the wellness retreat & education company Mind.Body.Reset. Gemma is one of 90 in the UK to hold a full Functional Medicine certification with the esteemed Institute of Functional Medicine (IFM). Gemma believes that with a Functional medicine approach we can empower patients to take control of their health, using the intelligence of nature and science to transform their health & restore inherent vitality.

Kirstie Lawton

Dr Kirstie Lawton, PhD is a UK-based AfN registered Public Health Nutritionist and BANT Nutritional Therapist, with over 20 years of experience in developing and delivering a wide range of nutrition and lifestyle interventions, both in the UK and internationally. Her clinical focus is paediatric, adolescent and young adult health and her area of interest is neurological health. She is a module coordinator at the Institute for Optimum Nutrition/Portsmouth University’s Graduate Diploma in Functional Nutrition, and a member of the Editorial Board for the Nutritional Medicine Institute (NMI). Kirstie is currently completing a master’s degree in Neuroscience and Neurodegeneration.
